Who We Are Impacting
House of Hope is located in San Javier, Medellin. Most famously known as Comuna 13. This barrio was once known as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world. It was run by violent drug trafficking organizations, who used the poor, sprawling hillside barrio as a transit route in and out of the city, and served as a stronghold for guerrillas, gangs, and paramilitaries.
Fast forward 20 years, this “barrio” is now famously known for its amazing, vibrant, and extraordinary graffiti art, outdoor electrical stairs, street dancers, food carts and bars. But what we love the most of Comuna 13 is the incredible beautiful and hard -working people striving for transformation.
Although much transformation has occurred in some areas of this community, remnants of what once was, is still very much a challenge. For those not living in the tourist area of this barrio, the reality of poverty and vulnerability could not be any realer.
For this reason, House of Hope became the very first children's and youth community center in the neighborhood that shares love, brings hope, empowers & inspires the children and teens of this barrio to not only change their community but change the world!
